Case Study - 5
Logistics Company

The client is an international logistics company with bonded warehouses and a distribution network via road and air at London Heathrow Airport. The need to address the total route to print and document distribution was highlighted by the IT Manager and we were asked to perform an in depth study of their problems and to suggest a viable reliable route to print.

Given the nature of the business it was not satisfactory to use the basic direct scan/send function of the multifunctional copiers; it was a specific requirement to have an auditable electronic document distribution system and further more one that would ultimately interface with a document management system.

Speed and accessibility to central networked photocopiers for high speed print output for documentation, speed being the issue as the window for raising such documentation is very small, usually an hour to enable freight loading airside and customs clearance.

In the administration department the need to have an affordable route to colour print for marketing and presentation purpose was identified.

Initially a print audit was carried out to identify volumes and a blueprinting exercise was carried out to identify where the electronic document distribution could be improved.

Canon iRC4580i - colour photocopierTo control electronic documentation and provide for integration with ADOS document management eCopy Scan Station for head office and 2 branch offices was introduced, simplifying the process and to prepare for the future. Colour print was provided via an iRC4580i at head office and an iRC3380i at one branch office. Black and white print was provided via an iR5065 at head office and iR3035’s at branch offices.

The enhanced reliability of the Canon machines and the ability to direct print and collate multi sets of documentation has enabled the client to meet their deadlines and enhance their service.
